We visited Rose Hill Plantation near Union, SC. It is the home of former South Carolina Gov. William H. Gist. Governor Gist is called the "Secession Governor" as he precided over and was a staunch proponent of South Carolina's secession from the United States which lead to the Civil War. The home is surrounded by an English-style box hedge garden and the grounds contain several period out-buildings. There is also a nature trail through the nearby woods.
