On Oct. 20, 2007, Connor's Cub Scout troup had its annual Camporee at the Walnut Grove Plantation Historic Site in Roebuck, South Carolina. There were activities like games, archery, knot tying, and crafts for the scouts and their families to participate in. Connor and I stayed for the day, but did not camp through the night as we don't have camping equipment and I don't handle sleeping on the ground well in my old age.

Walnut Grove Plantation is the location of an American Revolutionary War era "back country" plantation house. It includes recreations of the original house, the "academy" school house which was one of the first schools in the area, a doctor's office, and a working blacksmith's shop. There is a nice nature trail through the woods that highlights local vegetation. The trail also leads from the Visitor's Center to the family's cemetary. Revolutionary war soldiers, heros, heroines, family members and slaves are interred in the cemetary. For more information go to http://south-carolina-plantations.com/spartanburg/walnut-grove.html .
